Roasters recognize these different characteristics in their beans, and adjust the times and temperatures of their roasts to bring out the best qualities of each type of bean. Though most coffees can stand on their own, the blending of two or more types of beans, or the same bean at different stages of roast, allows roasters to create distinctive, custom-crafted coffees worthy of signature stature.

 During the last decade of his storied life, renowned American artist Winslow Homer (1836-1910) would each year pack his brushes and paints, shutter his home on the Maine coast, and escape New England’s winter for a season spent fishing in Cuba, the Bahamas or on Florida’s St. Johns and Homosassa rivers. The rivers and natural beauty of the Florida landscape would inspire the artist to create over several years a series of watercolor paintings that are today considered by many as some of the most expressive works of the 19th- and early 20th-century.
What distinguishes Homer’s impressionist paintings from those of more traditional, old-school artists comes in part from the approach he took in creating them.
