MADE IN THE SHADE RAINFOREST ROAST The 100% shade-grown, high-altitude Bourbon coffee used to create our Made in the Shade rainforest roast is produced by El Salvador’s Batres family on their Rainforest Alliance Certified™, eco-friendly Finca Monterey plantation perched at the edge of Bosque El Imposible National Park, one of Central America’s most important natural areas and one of the few remaining natural forests in El Salvador. Their efforts and those of other Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farmers demonstrate how a commitment to conservation and responsible land management can help preserve this fragile environment. Certification also guarantees that farm workers are paid fair wages, enjoy good living conditions and have access to education and health care. Red volcanic soils and a near-perfect climate produce ideal growing conditions for this outstanding heirloom variety. Our small-batch, artisanal approach to roasting brings out the coffee’s natural sweetness and produces a smooth, full-flavored cup that sings of berries, bittersweet dark chocolate and hints of cinnamon. |
