Guatemala - Cruz Grande

In the cup we are finding notes of toffee, semi-dark chocolate, vanilla, hazelnut and a soft, citrusy, tangerine-like acidity.

Cruz Grande is a small cooperative located in Santa Barbara, Huehuetenango.  The cooperative serves 60 small-holder farmers who focus on specialty coffee production and advancement through a communal approach.  The cooperative members produce mainly bourbon, caturra and catuai varietals on farms situated between 1800 and 2000 meters above sea level on the mountainsides around a centrally located, cooperative-owned wet-mill.

The Cruz Grande members are growing pure arabica varietals on some of the highest coffee-production areas in Huehuetenango.  After harvesting, they process the coffee in a straightforward, traditional manner and slowly dry it in the sun resulting in a coffee which gives a clear picture of the beautifully sweet and balanced Huehuetenango coffee terroir.
